Want to be a writer? Are you thinking about it? And thinking about it?

START NOW.

If you don't know how to start, get a how-to book out of the library OR go to a writers group OR go to a seminar/writers conference OR look online for advice OR simply sit down and open a word document.

DO IT.

Don't wait for the day it will be easier or simpler. Life is always complicated. Start now. In a year, you'll be glad you did.

Practice persistence. Write daily—even if it's only a couple hundred words. Develop a tough skin. You'll have to have your work critiqued if you want to improve.

Keep learning. Keep trying. Ignore the voice of doubt, whether it's in your head or it's someone you know. Put your head down and push forward.

It never gets easier, in the worldly sense of the word, does it? But the more we write, the more we find our stride. And when we're off stride, we've learned how to keep going then, too.

And really, when you're a writer, you can't NOT write! I've tried to quit several times. It always drives me a little nuts, so back to the computer I go. haha!
