A chat with author Jen Turano

I'm delighted to host my friend, author Jen Turano. If you haven't read any of Jen's books, you're really missing out. Her latest release in the Apart from the Crowd series is Caught by Surprise.

Caught by Surprise

Miss Temperance Flowerdew is on her way to work when a stranger suddenly grabs her off the street and sends her on a Chicago-bound train before she can figure out what happened. When Mr. Gilbert Cavendish is called upon to rescue a missing woman, he follows the trail to Chicago only to discover that the woman is his good friend Temperance. Before they can discover who was behind the abduction, they're seen alone together by a New York society matron, putting their reputations at risk. Gilbert is willing to propose marriage--except Temperance will have none of it. She's finally stepped out of the shadow of her relations and won't give up her independence. But when it becomes clear the misunderstanding in Chicago has escalated into a threat on her life and followed her to New York, accepting Gilbert's help in solving the mystery may lead to more than she ever could have dreamed.

Doesn't that sound like fun? Actually, all of Jen's books are delightful. They're humorous, fast-paced, and quirky. Really, check them out!

I asked Jen to stop by my blog so I could let my friends know more about her. I'm happy to recommend her books. She's a peach! Let me tell you, I met her in our local coffee shop. Yeah. We live that close to one another. She's a great friend and a wonderful author. I've asked her to chat about life and writing so you can get a peek inside her busy, creative brain.

Societal pet peeve . . . sound off:

It really bothers me how mean people are these days on social media. Words matter and should be used accordingly. Just because social media provides people with a platform, doesn’t mean every unkind thought should be put out there.

Tell us the range of the kinds of books you enjoy reading.

I enjoy suspense, mystery, historical romance, contemporary romance, and just about anything except erotica. I tend to steer clear of the naughty.

How do you keep your sanity in our run, run, run world?

I walk five miles in the morning which seems to settle me for the day. Then, I usually walk another five miles at night to relieve the stress of the day.

What advice would you give to an author just starting out?

That if you’re considering writing as a career, you need to write all the time. You also need to take steps to understand the publishing world. Competition is fierce. Your work will need to be exceptional. More often than not, your first book is not going to be the one to get published. I have seven books that will never see the light of day, but those were my stepping stones, needed to help me understand how to perfect my writing craft and to learn what genre was best-suited for me to write.

What would you like to tell us about the featured book?

Caught by Surprise is the last book of the “Apart from the Crowd” series, but it’s not necessary to read the previous books. It’s all about Miss Temperance Flowerdew and Mr. Gilbert Cavendish, friends from childhood who stumble their way into something more than friendship. It’s a bit outlandish, was a complete riot to write, and is one of my favorite books to date.

How can readers find your book on the Internet?

This link will take everyone to all the places selling my book.

Honestly, treat yourself, and go out and buy Caught by Surprise. I started reading it last week, and I can't put it down! Better yet, read all of Jen's books—I have.
